Back in Haiti

IVEN4244.jpgGrateful to be back with Rene and our four footed family members and in the community we love.

A child sponsorship food distribution, giving out the last school books and with a team from Franklin TN we managed to put a new roof over somebody’s home and a family with 5 kids received a shelter. Moving them out of a plastic/tarpis covering into a safer haven. Never a dull moment around here.

If you wonder what our Haiti life is like … you are more then welcome to check us out. Till then… stay safe, feel loved and count your blessings, enjoy your family and friends, love can slip by and we often don’t even notice.

Rene and Marianne.

Words in action Mexico response…

Disasters are just that… a disaster! However in the midst of it all you can be used to be His hands, His feet, His comfort and His love.

Not speaking the language and understanding a little has been one of my challenges during this deployment.

However opening my arms and let a woman cry and cry and cry some more was a moment I won’t forget.

Or after the 6.1 earthquake on Saturday that rushed all of us out of the places we stayed in and find the local people scared and fearful on the plaza. What to do?

Being Dutch all I could think about was… buy cups of coffee and cookies and hand those out.

The many tremors since then, sleeping in tents, meeting an amazing young pastor and his wife, who lost everything and yet they cooked for 75-90 people each day as many houses in their community went down or are standing but need to come down.

Coming to the end of this deployment I’m grateful for amazing Mexican Hope Force reservist!

September 16, 2017,Dear friends

Greetings from Haiti, we are so grateful hurricane Irma did not “visit” us.At the same time our hearts and prayers are for the other islands, St. Maarten, Cuba and so on and Houston and Florida.

Because Hope Force International, the organization we work with is a disaster relief organization, they already have teams in place in Houston TX and in Florida. As HFI has been establishing Hope Force Mexico, I will be traveling today to Mexico and the below message was sent out by our office.

Please pray for our Mexico Hope Force International medical/relief Reservists who are preparing to serve in earthquake-stricken state of Chiapas — bringing badly needed supplies and healthcare. A collaboration between Hope Force Haiti and HFI Mexico will take place when HFI Haiti Coordinator and nurse, Marianne Lako, will join them to help lead the clinic. Marianne’s vast experience in medical relief efforts — including the HFI medical response in the aftermath of Nepal’s devastating earthquake — will be an asset to our team’s efforts.

We are grateful for you to stand with us and around us.

There are times you don’t know how to respond … you might not be able to go … however because of your partnership with us, your prayers, your giving you are helping. THANK YOU!

Will you please pray for us in the next two and a half weeks?

Getting a ticket out of Haiti was a challenge due to some of the East Coast airports still being closed. However I will fly out today. In two hours time Rene will drive me to Port au Prince and via Atlanta and Houston I will arrive in Mexico City tomorrow morning. On Monday morning we will get in a car and drive 10 plus hours to the earthquake area.

Please join us in prayer for:

* Rene and all the work in Haiti

* For my Mexican coworkers and myself to have inside in the situation and being able to reach out with a heart of compassion and Gods love

* For health and safety

* For all the disaster responders both in the Caribbean as well as the USA

* For the survivors that in the midst of this storm in their lives they will feel comforted and loved

We can’t do it alone and are thankful you are our friends, our partners our prayer warriors.

In Him,

Rene and Marianne

Tuesday in Sous Savanne

The schools have started, all 167 kids in the Child Sponsorship Program received their back packs, school supplies and school books. Uniforms are made and most of the kids are eager to get back in their school routine. Together with the community leaders we are visiting other requests for sponsorship, many families are asking, of course this does mean we need more sponsors.

We are doing well, our hearts are with the people of Houston and the people in Florida as well as Mexico and the devastation after their 8.2 earthquake …

Hope Force is trying to get all the information needed to know how to respond, will you join us in knowing how, what and where to help? Thank you…

Lako’s Update After IRMA visited the area

It’s Friday morning and we are fine. Had some wind and rain off and on but most of the country has been spared a disaster. There’s some damage like blown off tin roofs and flooding further North mostly along coast and rivers. There’s been a lot of prayer and the track has moved North just enough to not have a direct hit. We’re relieved and grateful. Concerned for friends in Florida and beyond, some of them evacuating today…
